What my girls are doing now . . .

This last week I have been very blessed. Baby Sprinkles is sleeping through the night! She is 4 and a half months old and decided to sleep through the night for the past 4 eves. Bless you child.

Sweetness has also been showing some progress in life. She is mastering the pedalling of her tricycle. Sweetness is a wee petite so reaching those pedals has truly been a challenge. She is no longer just pedalling backwards but has got the forward motion happening too.

Precious ... hmmm ... she has recently learned how to tie a knot. That's an important life skill!

But more importantly she has been memorizing scripture. She has Psalm 119:11, Proverbs 3:5,6, 1 Peter 5:7 and Philippians 4:13 hidden in her heart. She is presently working on Genesis 1:1. There is nothing sweeter (or convicting) than listening to a 4 year old tell you to "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all you ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.".

Strawberry Picking Trauma

Journal Entry ~ June 30, 2008

Today was our annual strawberry picking day. I took the girls and their cousins to the local strawberry patch. With sunhats on their heads and pails in their hands, the girls were giddy with anticipation as we headed across the field to the designated picking area. Oh, this was going to be fun!

The goal: To fill each ice cream bucket to the brim.

It didn't take long to realize that a few obstacles were going to be standing in our way:

The scorching 10:00 AM sun.

The crying baby in the wrap around sling.

The accidental slippage which left a smear of mud on a sundress and a pair of fake Croc's.

And the spilled strawberries incident. A bounty of our labour gone in vain as strawberries scattered around our feet.

Unfortunately an early departure was inevitable.

At the scale our efforts weighed in at $4.32. I picked up the slack by purchasing a few flats of prepicked fruit while the girls and their cousins sipped lemonade in the shade near the entrance of The Strawberry Patch.

Daddy's Girls

Some daddies were just meant to be daddies to daughters.

My husband is one of them.

A few days ago I heard my husband struggling with the door knob when he arrived home from work. I went to open the door and there he stood with his arms full of flowers. Three long stemmed roses - one for each of his princesses (although Sprinkles is only 2 months old), and a vibrant bouquet of carnations, daisies, and mums for me!

How sweet is that!?!?

My bouquet is sitting prettily near the kitchen sink while the long stemmed roses have found comfortable homes on dressers and bedside tables.

Life is just sweeter with flowers. Thanks "daddy" for taking care of your girls.

Please Leave a Message After the Beeeeep

One of the perks, or should I say quirks, of working from home is that there are days when the phone seems to be attached to your ear. Yesterday was one of those days:

8:30 - (call out) Conference call staff meeting - enjoyed my morning hot drink
9:15 - (call in) work related call - almost made it into the shower
9:30 - (call out) personal call to a friend - fed Baby Sprinkles
10:05 - (call in) work related - almost got the girls out of the bath
10:45 - (call in) work related - had my shower and am almost dressed
11:15 - 2:30 - left the house to escape the phone
2:30 - checked my answering machine - 2 calls - one from the dentist and one from my husband
2:45 - (call out)- confirmed dentist appointments for Wed.
2:47 - (call out) - called husband to clarify his message
2:49 - (call out) - personal/work related call to cancel daycare on Friday
5:00 - (call in) - husband called to say he'll be late getting home
5:15 - (call in) - grandma called about birth of cousin's baby girl
5:50 - (call in) - babysitter called to confirm arrangement for Saturday
6:05 - (call in) - neighbor called about sharing some homemade tzatziki
6:45 - husband got home from work and the phone remained silent for the evening. phew

Scary to think about our home's phone activity once the girls turn into tweens and teens. Separate lines, cell phones, hmmm. . .
